Ferula sadleriana Ledebour

Flora Europaea

perennial, saxiphile calciphile intrazonal from lower nemoral belt

Seslerio - Festucion pallentis

A species with a very curious disjunct distribution. Four populations are located in the insular mountains of the Pannonian Basin, in Hungary and an isolated one in northern Trascau Mountains, Romania (Cheile Turzii).

Another indication from Prodan (1939) is very questionable - Boita in Chile Boitei, Hunedoara county, Poiana Ruscai Mountains. Among the species of Ferula L. which are usually very tall, this species is rather small. An interesting recent populational study can be seen here.

Cheile Turzii, the southern most sunny ridge of the right slope, on massive Jurassic limestones. Trascau Mountains, Cluj county, June 2011.
